Cardinal Maida, Others React to Election Results
vote
Cardinal Maida is "saddened" by the passage of Proposal 2 which expands the use and destruction of human embryos in stem cell research in Michigan.

He thanks "Catholics and all citizens of good will who voted to defend the dignity of life, particularly for the most vulnerable among us."

In Lansing, the Michigan Catholic Conference (MCC) issues a statement which notes "... the Church's teaching in support of stem cell research that does not destroy the human embryo is clearer today than it was before this campaign began."

Cardinal Maida offers his prayers for Barack Obama and his family, and joins with Pope Benedict XVI and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in urging the President-elect to "work in defense and support of the life and dignity of every human person."
