September 18-19, 2007 is the 20th anniversary of Pope John Paul II's historic visit to the Archdiocese of Detroit. Cardinal Maida requests the following prayer be used at Masses celebrated September 15-19, 2007:

Papal Visit Anniversary Prayer

Heavenly Father, we give you thanks for the words and witness of your beloved son and servant, Pope John Paul II, through whom you showed your fatherly love and compassion for the whole human family. We pray that as our Church of Detroit recalls his visit among us 20 years ago, we may continue to fulfill the challenge he articulated during his homily at the Silverdome, "conducting our-selves in a way worthy of the Gospel of Christ."

As he lived and died proclaiming the Gospel of Life in word and deed, may we do the same that, with one mind and heart, we may prepare the world for the dawning of your Kingdom of truth, justice, love, and peace. We ask all this through Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
