October Prayer Theme:
"Eucharist, Sacrament of Unity"

October 2005 brings to a completion the Year of the Eucharist, promulgated by our late Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, and continued by our current Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI. This very month, the World Synod of Bishops will be reflecting on the theme of the Eucharist as the sacrament of our unity and source of our life and mission. During this month of October, as we reflect together on this sacrament of unity, we pray for a deeper respect for the dignity of all human life, for an end to violence and war everywhere, for healing and strength for all who suffer from any disasters such as Hurricane Katrina. And as always, we pray that all may be one!
Loving Father, in the gift of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, your Son, you call your Church into being. United with our Holy Father and the bishops, and in communion with our brothers and sisters of every time and place, in every Eucharistic celebration and through our adoration of this sacrament, may we experience a deeper awareness of our communion with the Church. Help us to express in our lives what we celebrate at your altar: may we be your instruments of justice and peace, committed to ecumenical and interfaith dialogue and prayer. May all that we do truly flow from this sacrament that is the source and center of our lives. We ask all this Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
