The following release was distributed by the Archdiocese of Detroit on October 22, 2007 on behalf of the group seeking to build Austin Catholic Academy:
Financing Plan Approved for Austin Catholic Academy
Austin Catholic Academy moves a step closer to being built with the approval from the Archdiocese of Detroit to create a corporate structure that would enable the sale of bonds to help finance the building of the school.
The College of Consultors, a body of priest-advisors to the cardinal on administrative and financial issues, has said it favors a plan to transfer the title to a portion of the 23 Mile Road site property when the corporate structure is finalized. Ground-breaking is now possible as early as 2008 with the school opening projected for the fall of 2009.
Four parishes from the North Macomb Vicariate, St. Isidore, St. Lawrence, St. Thérèse of Lisieux and St. John Vianney are the current sponsoring parishes. Other parishes in the North Macomb Vicariate are now in the decision-making process about a financial commitment to Austin Catholic Academy. The North Macomb Vicariate has made Catholic Education one of the priorities of its Vicariate Pastoral Plan and has endorsed the founding of a Catholic high school.
Austin Catholic Academy will be built on 63-acres of land on the north side of 23 Mile Road, between Card Road and North Avenue, one mile east of Romeo Plank Road in Macomb.
The Midwest Order of St. Augustine (the Augustinian Fathers) has agreed to conduct the proposed new school. It would be co-educational and is targeting an enrollment of 800 students in grades 9 through 12. Sponsoring parishes will have the first option at the openings for students interested in attending the regional high school. For additional information, call Leonard Brillati at (248) 431-3700.
