Archbishop Vigneron on Msgr. Bernard Hebda's appointment to succeed Bishop Cooney in the Diocese of Gaylord
Issued: October 7, 2009
"This is a red-letter day, of course, in the history of the Diocese of Gaylord – a time to welcome their new shepherd, Bishop Hebda, and a moment for our Sister Church in the north of the Lower Peninsula to begin to say thanks to Bishop Cooney for his years of devoted ministry there.
"I offer heartfelt best wishes to both Bishop Hebda and Bishop Cooney, in my own name and on behalf of all the clergy, religious and lay faithful of the Archdiocese. All of us are very happy to have Bishop Hebda with us in Michigan, and I want to assure him of our prayers that the Lord will sustain him in his resolve to be a good shepherd, after the example of the great Bishop Baraga. And it is my joy to say what pride all of us in the Archdiocese feel about Bishop Cooney and his faithful ministry in the Diocese of Gaylord."
