Cd. Maida ‘tastes’ SBXL victory

Detroit – So what exactly does victory taste like?
For Cardinal Adam Maida, it tastes like a west-coast seafood delicacy.
It took two months, but Seattle Archbishop Alex Brunett delivered on his friendly wager with Cardinal Maida over this year’s Super Bowl, in which the cardinal’s native town Pittsburg Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks.
Archbishop Brunett last week sent the cardinal, an old friend, “some dependable, Dungeness crab” – which was stacked up against a 12-pack of Dearborn Brand Coney Island hot dogs, Vlasic pickles, Vernor’s ginger ale and, in honor of Pittsburgh, Heinz ketchup had the Seahawks won the National Football League’s championship game.
“As someone who attended the game, I savored the Steelers’ ‘super’ win,” Cardinal Maida said in a statement of the Steelers’, and his own, victory at Super Bowl XL in Detroit on Feb. 5. “Now, thanks to Archbishop Brunett delivering on his bet, I will enjoy the taste of victory once again.”
While the Cardinal had fresh crab to enjoy along with his Easter candies, Archbishop Brunett – perhaps with the bitter taste of defeat still lingering – wished the cardinal happy dining.
“My prayer is that he won’t choke on them the way the officiating crew choked on Super Bowl Sunday,” Archbishop Brunett said in a news statement, which was issued by the Archdiocese of Seattle April 11 and labeled “not necessarily for immediate release.”
The release was quick to note that the archbishop’s comments were in jest.
Mostly.
“It’s only a joke, of course,” Archbishop Brunett stated, “except for the part about the officials. I hope my good friend Cardinal Maida will enjoy these Pacific Ocean delicacies in good health.
“My only regrets are that the Seahawks did not bring the Super Bowl trophy home to Seattle and that I didn’t have the chance to celebrate with a Coney Island hotdog.”
As a kicker, the witty Archdiocese of Seattle press release instructed news reporters to direct further questions and comments about the friendly wager to Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren.
