St. Florian's pastor elected superior general for his religious order

Hamtramck — Fr. Tomasz Sielicki, SCh, has spent the last four years as pastor ministering to the people of St. Florian Parish, and for the next six years he'll be ministering to his brother priests.
Fr. Sielicki was elected in September to the post of superior general for the Society of Christ, a religious order out of Poland that ministers to Polish Catholic expatriates all over the world. "I am now responsible, with God's help, for my brothers in priesthood in countries all over the world," he said.
As of four days before his departure, Fr. Sielicki still had to pack up his office, but his last few days at St. Florian were scheduled with funerals and other parish events. His successor, Fr. Miroslaw Frankowski, SCh, formerly of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish, Sterling Heights, arrived at St. Florian shortly before Fr. Sielicki left. In his new post, Fr. Sielicki replaces Fr. Tadeusz Winnicki, SCh, who was assigned to Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish earlier this month.
Fr. Sielicki explained that the Society of Christ was founded in 1932, and now there are almost 400 priests and brothers ministering all over the world. Delegates from the world's provinces meet once every six years, during which a new superior general is elected.
He already has a long list of travel plans, as the superior general is often invited to important parish events, such as significant anniversaries. In November alone, for example, he's traveling to the Ukraine, Holland and Brazil; however, he plans on being back in the United States for the kickoff of St. Florian's 100-year anniversary celebration, which starts at Christmas.
Before he came to St. Florian, Fr. Sielicki ministered in Poland, studied in Rome, and founded the Society of Christ publishing house and printing house, which he managed for 16 years. He said he will miss St. Florian and its people, especially the friendliness he's been shown.
