Seven men ordained transitional deacons
by Robert Delaney of The Michigan Catholic May 23, 2008
Detroit Seven men took a big step toward ordination to the priesthood last Saturday when Auxiliary Bishop John Quinn ordained them to the diaconate in the chapel of Sacred Heart Major Seminary.
The new transitional deacons and their diaconal year parish assignments, effective June 1, are:
Deacon Raymond Arwady, Our Lady of Sorrows, Farmington.
Deacon Philip Ching, Immaculate Conception, Ira Township, then St. Mary, Wayne, effective July 1.
Deacon Leni Cubas, St. Gerald, Farmington.
Deacon David Cybulski, Immaculate Conception, Lapeer.
Deacon Noel Fogang Neguim, Corpus Christi, Detroit.
Deacon Charles White, St. Sebastian, Dearborn.
Deacon David Wilkes, St. Joseph, Lake Orion.
Five of the men are on track for priestly ordination next year for the Archdiocese of Detroit, but Deacon Cubas was ordained for the Diocese of Cajamarca, Peru, and Deacon Neguim for the Archdiocese of Douala, Cameroon.
Bishop Jose Carmelo Martinez Lazaro of Cajamarca was at the ceremony, and accepted the promise of celibacy from Deacon Cubas.
