Palliative care author here for Rose Mass
by The Michigan Catholic Published March 20, 2009
Detroit — Following this year's Rose Mass — a Sunday, March 22 liturgy for Catholic healthcare workers and their friends and families — guest speaker David Moller, Ph.D., will share his indepth portrayals of the neglected homeless poor population.
Moller, a sociologist whose stated mission is drawing attention to the poor who desperately need health care, will discuss his book, "Dancing With Broken Bones: Palliative Care for the Homeless & Inner-City Poor,"which offers compelling and respectful looks into the lives of six impoverished men and women. The book includes extensive interviews and photographs of his subjects.
Moller calls the poor and inner-city homeless an "invisible society," usually undetected or ignored by media, politics and the healthcare system.
The Rose Mass will be at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, 2701 Chicago Blvd. in Detroit. Archbishop Allen Vigneron will be the main celebrant. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided after the Mass.
