by Robert Delaney of The Michigan Catholic
Published May 22, 2009

Detroit - CTND, the Archdiocese of Detroit's Catholic cable TV channel, is winner of this year's Herald Award from the Metropolitan Christian Council: Detroit-Windsor.

The award is presented annually for leadership in demonstrating religious values in media and communications. CTND won for its production of the program,"Canticle Café," about the innovative outreach program to the homeless at St. Aloysius Parish in downtown Detroit.

Members of the creative team that worked on the production included Ron Pangborn, editor, John Quayle, supervising producer; and Curt Peters, graphic design/animation.

CTND is among the archdiocesan ministries funded by donations to the CSA, the annual Catholic Services Appeal.

Other honorees to be recognized at the Thursday, May 28, awards dinner at Andiamo's Italia in Warren are Chuck Gaidica of WDIV-TV (Channel 4), with the Carlyle W. Rees Award; Rev. Dr. Oscar W. King III, with the Stewart Kerr Ecumenical Award; Rev. Ortheia Barnes-Kennerly, with the Community Service Award; and Mike Wendland, with the Innovative Technology Award.

Sacred Heart of the Hills Parish in Auburn Hills will receive the council's Friendship Award, along with two area Protestant congregations.

Tickets for the dinner are $50 each and are available by calling (313) 870-9550.
