Abortionist fined for death of woman at clinic
by Robert Delaney of The Michigan Catholic Published July 31, 2009
Detroit - Dr. Alberto Hodari, owner of the Lathrup Village abortion clinic where the remains of aborted babies were found discarded in the trash last year, was fined $10,000 for his role in the 2003 death of 32-year-old Regina Johnson following an abortion.
"Ten thousand dollars seems such a small penalty to pay for the death of a human being. To Hodari this is pocket money," said Monica Migliorino Miller, director of Citizens for a Pro-Life Society.
"Let's also not forget that, in addition to Regina's death, we must also mark the death of her innocent baby. Two human beings were killed - not just one," Miller continued.
The fine was imposed by the Michigan Department of Community Health Bureau of Health Professions back in March of this year, but Miller said she only learned of the disciplinary action while checking on the status of complaints she filed last year in connection with medical records found in the trash with the discarded body parts.
Citizens for a Pro-Life Society is the same organization that publicized the finding of the babies' remains and arranged for them be given a proper burial after a funeral Mass at St. Gerald Church in Farmington.
Johnson died Sept. 18, 2003, from complications following a first-trimester abortion performed on her at Hodari's WomanCare Clinic on Southfield Road the previous day by Dr. Milton Nathanson.
Hodari was not at the clinic that day, but as its licensee was accused in a three-count administrative complaint brought by the Michigan Attorney General's Office's Licensing & Regulation Division of negligence, incompetence, and lack of good moral character.
A Bureau of Health Professions Board of Medicine disciplinary subcommittee imposed the fine and dismissed the second and third counts of the complaint after Hodari entered a "no contest" plea.
Such a plea does not admit the truth of the allegations, but constitutes agreement to the disciplinary subcommittee treating them as truth for purposes of resolving the complaint.
The nurse anesthetist and recovery room nurse were put on probation in connection with their involvement in the case.
Citizens for a Pro-Life Society has produced a five-minute video about the burial of the discarded babies. Titled "Requiem for the Disappeared," it can be accessed from the group's Internet site, www.prolifesociety.com.
