Kristin Lukowski | The Michigan Catholic Bishop Ludovick Minde, of Kogongwa, Tanzania, gives a blessing to costumed children of SS. Cyril and Methodius (Slovak) Parish, Sterling Heights, after they raised $1,198.22, in part through a musical about Daniel and the lion’s den. |
Sterling Heights - Bishop Ludovick Minde, of Kogongwa, Tanzania, couldn't be at SS. Cyril and Methodius (Slovak) Parish's production of "Rescue in the Night," which tells the story of Daniel in the lion's den. But he got his own encore performance last Sunday when children in the production sang for him a song from the show.
They also presented to him a certificate for the money they'd raised, $1,198.22 through proceeds of the musical "Rescue in the Night," about Daniel and the lion's den, and a penny drive held through the K for J (Kids for Jesus) Bible camp program. The parish has been raising money for Holy Family Parish in Kogongwa, where Bishop Minde ministers, after he visited the parish for a mission appeal.

Kristin Lukowski | The Michigan Catholic Katerina Lamerson, 9, and Alma Giannone, 7, show off their roaring abilities. Both played lions in SS. Cyril and Methodius (Slovak) Parish’s recent production of “Rescue in the Night,” the story of Daniel in the lion’s den. |
Children in the parish's home-schooled group, Sancta Familia, played the part of lions, advisors, perils, the king and Daniel, played by William Yamin, 8, who led the song for Bishop Minde after Communion.
Daniel Giannone, 11, who played a lion, said he had to study his lines and learn how to roar properly. He knew of the story of Daniel before, but said he understands it a bit better now.
"Just being in it was fun," he said. "I like getting involved in that type of thing."
Katerina Lamerson, 9, said she learned in the story that only God could touch the hearts of the advisors and make them good. She also had fun roaring and learning the dances for the production, she said.
"I learned that you shouldn't be afraid when you're on stage, because God's always beside you," she said.
