Archdiocese of Detroit Communications (313) 237-5943

The following is a statement from Ned McGrath, director of communications for the Archdiocese of Detroit:
"The Detroit archdiocese has been unable to speak with Fr. Demmer to confirm that the documents distributed on Thursday, 27th September, came from him - correspondence to Cardinal Maida and separate correspondence to the parishioners of St. Dunstan. Regardless of the source, it's hard to understand how these materials will help a parish community that is sorely in need of healing at this particular time.

"Fr. Demmer's resignation as pastor was accepted and that decision stands. While this was a difficult matter for everyone involved, the change was made for the good and well-being of Fr. Demmer himself and for the parish.

"In regard to the criminal investigation of suspected financial wrongdoing at St. Dunstan, the archdiocese is cooperating fully with the Garden City Police Department."
