Print: Charges Announced in St. Dunstan Parish Embezzlement

Contact:
Archdiocese of Detroit Communications (313) 237-5943

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy held a press conference on December 18, 2007 in regard to the embezzlement of funds from St. Dunstan Parish in Garden City.  The following is Ned McGrath's reaction to Worthy's remarks.
The Archdiocese of Detroit expresses its appreciation to the Garden City Police Department and the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office for their deliberate and diligent investigation into the serious financial matters involving St. Dunstan Parish.  Going forward from here, we will continue to cooperate fully with their efforts.

At this stage in the legal proceedings, the archdiocese is limited in what it can or should say regarding the case.  The findings announced by the prosecutor appear to support and expand on the concerns raised by the archdiocesan audit of St. Dunstan earlier this year.  When the matter was first turned over to the authorities in September, those concerns were shared with the parish community and further detailed in subsequent communications.

Fr. Thomas Sutherland, a senior (retired) priest, has agreed to remain as the temporary administrator of the parish for the near future.
