Over 700 students, parents, and staff members from the 109 Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit will participate in a Mass in honor of Catholic Schools Week on Wednesday, January 30.  Auxiliary Bishop Francis Reiss will celebrate the Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, 9844 Woodward, Detroit.  More than 15 pastors will concelebrate.

Students will act as lectors, readers, gift bearers, and altar servers at the Mass.  A representative from each school will be presented with a poster featuring a picture of the sun taken by the Hubbel Telescope and a quotation from John 1:3-4: "What came to be through Him was life, and this Life was the light of the human race."

Catholic Schools Week, January 27 to February 2, is an annual celebration of Catholic schools and their contributions to their communities and the nation.  "Catholic Schools Light the Way" is this year's theme.  Locally, a variety of special events have been planned, including open houses, talent shows, and special dinners.

Members of the Media are invited to cover the Mass in Honor of Catholic Schools Week, as well as the local events.
