Thieves stole two outdoor ornamental light fixtures from St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 15004 Hampton, Grosse Pointe Park, on Sunday evening, October 5. The lights, designed as lanterns, were original to the church, built in 1926-27. In recent years, they had been refitted for high pressure sodium bulbs.
"The fixtures were bronze and copper and mounted at the side entrance of the church, facing the main parking lot at the Detroit/Grosse Pointe Park border," said Chuck Dropiewski, pastoral minister at St. Ambrose. "Someone took the trouble to unbolt them from the church building and, because of that, we're hopeful they can be recovered intact."
Dropiewski could not place a monetary value on the fixtures, but noted they were "historic and priceless" to the people of St. Ambrose. "We would be very appreciative if they were returned," he added.
Anyone with information about the stolen fixtures is asked to call the Grosse Pointe Park Police Department at (313) 822-7400 or St. Ambrose Parish at (313) 822-2814.
