Archdiocese of Detroit to host Corpus Christi Procession

On Sunday, June 14, the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron is inviting the faithful of the Archdiocese of Detroit to join him for a holy hour and a procession of song and prayer with the Blessed Sacrament. The procession will pass through the neighborhoods around the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit. Participants from throughout the Archdiocese will participate, some wearing ethnic attire to show the great diversity which exists here in the local church. The following is the event schedule:
2 p.m. Hour of Eucharistic adoration
3 p.m. Procession with the Blessed Sacrament
4 p.m. Brief period of adoration followed by benediction

The Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, commonly known in the Latin as Corpus Christi, is meant to solemnly commemorate the institution of the Eucharist – which Catholics also recall during Holy Week, on Holy Thursday. The feast day of Corpus Christi has been celebrated in the Catholic church since the 13th century. Large processions with the Blessed Sacrament, often through cities and neighborhoods, have been part of the Catholic tradition in various parts of the world for centuries.
Several parishes in the Archdiocese also are hosting their own Corpus Christi processions and services.
