Condolences to Cardinal Maida
from the Bishops of Pittsburgh

From the Diocese of Pittsburgh, January 31, 2008

With Bishop Paul Bradley, Bishop William Winter, Bishop John McDowell and myself, and in the name of the faithful of the Diocese of Pittsburgh and most especially our brother priests, I extend to our fellow priest, Father Ted Maida, and to our native son and brother, His Eminence Cardinal Adam Maida, our sincere sympathy and prayers as you mourn the death of your dear mother, Sophie. What an accomplishment – to be the mother of three sons: a successful businessman, a holy priest, and an inspiring prince of the Church. Your consolation rests in knowing that she rests eternally now with our loving Father.  You and your loved ones will continue to hold a very special place in our prayers. 

Eternal Rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let the Perpetual Light shine upon her.  May she rest in peace.
