"In the Catholic social vision, the human person is central, the clearest reflection of God among us. Each person possesses a basic dignity that comes from God, not from any human quality or accomplishment, not from race or gender, age or economic status. The test of every institution or policy is whether it enhances or threatens human life and human dignity. We believe people are more important than things."

(U.S. Catholic Bishops - A Century of Social Teaching)

Based on the rich teaching history of the Church, most notably Pope John Paul II's encyclical Evangelium Vitae (Gospel of Life), we are called to respect, protect, love and serve life, every human life.

The ministry calls us to reach out to those who are suffering, in need of safety, and to compassionately engage and respond to those who are in life threatening situations by providing resources and programs that educate, enhance, strengthen and value every human life.

Disability Concerns - in keeping with our Catholic social teaching, direction of the U.S. Catholic Bishops and in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Disability Concerns Advisory board offers parish communities resources and tools to develop awarness and build an inclusive church community.

Family Violence - the Family Violence Forum organize and offer yearly prayer services, parish presentations and training workshops to raise awareness of this insidious crime against humanity.

HIV / AIDS - the Aids Ministry Forum provides education, caring support, and resources to encourage and assist the Catholic community in developing their ministry to people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. They also coordinate quarterly Healing and Remembrance Masses throughout the diocese.

Legal Birth Definition Act - Cardinal Adam Maida, Archbishop of Detroit, published an open letter to the citizens and elected officials of Michigan on Sunday, September 28, supporting the Legal Birth Definition Act. Writing as Chairman of the Michigan Catholic Conference (MCC), the public policy voice of the Catholic Church in Michigan.

Parish Nursing - The mission of parish nursing is the intentional integration of the practice of faith with the practice of nursing so that people can achieve wholeness in, with, and through the community of faith in which parish nurses serve.

Project Rachel - Post Abortion - the Project Rachel program is a confidential healing ministry for the many people who have been touched by an abortion experience. Project Rachel helps men and women in a private, sensitive, confidential manner through the assistance of trained counselors, clergy, and companion support.

Project Life - the Project Life program, initiated by Adam Cardinal Maida in 1996, focuses on preserving all life, from conception to the last natural breath. Project Life offers crisis counseling and assistance for men and women contemplating abortion, assisted suicide and any end of life issues.
