Determining a Worship Schedule For a New Cluster
printer friendly version

1. Determine the Present Church Capacity

  • CSA households x 3 x .30 = # of church attendees

  • Church seating capacity x # of masses = Present total accommodation

2. Determine the number of Masses needed to accommodate church attendees in each parish of the potential cluster.

  • Using the last October count and/or a recent monthly count; determine the average attendance at each Mass for all parishes to be clustered

  • Determine the average total weekend Mass attendance for each parish to be clustered: average weekend Mass attendance ÷ seating capacity = the minimum # of masses for each parish

3. Determine the Sunday Mass Schedule for the cluster by:

  • Bringing the leadership of the potential cluster together

  • Sharing the data and the number of Masses to be said at each parish

  • Facilitating a discussion for the times of Masses at each parish while allowing adequate time between Masses (2 hours from the beginning of one Mass to the beginning of another is recommended)

4. Have all leadership sign the Cluster Worship Schedule Recommendation Form before submitting for review by the pastor elect.

5. Upon approval by the pastor elect publish new times in the bulletins, send a letter to each active household, announce from the pulpit and advise the vicariate of the new schedule.
