"Support Your Local Seminarian" Project Receives Support In Vicariates
Posters Allow for Personal Contact with Detroit Seminarians and Archdiocese

The people of the Archdiocese of Detroit have always been generous with their financial support for the formation and education of the Detroit seminarians. Often, they may never meet or know the names of the seminarians until they read about their ordination in The Michigan Catholic. In order to provide more personal contact between these men studying to become priests and the people whom they will eventually serve, the Vocation Office has initiated a project titled "Support Your Local Seminarian."

Every home parish of a Detroit seminarian and every parish in that seminarian's Vicariate has received a poster highlighting information about that particular seminarian and suggested ideas for the parish to support him during his studies. There are 18 Vicariates, and presently, 14 are represented by a Detroit seminarian studying for the priesthood.

The project has encouraged some very creative displays in the narthex of some parishes as well as visibility and support for the seminarians. One of the seminarians told the story about walking into class the first day for the Winter semester and a commuter student announced "hey, your picture is in our parish and we are all praying for you!" It really gave the seminarian a lift.

One pastor reports that he scanned all the posters that he had received and has turned them into prayer cards for his parishioners.
