How do customs become established? Obviously, by the repetition of the same event, be it playing solitaire, drawing pictures, serving turkey for Thanksgiving, or whatever. At Sacred Heart Major Seminary, we would like to establish a new "custom."

 

Annually during February, the seminary celebrates Alumni Day with Vespers, fellowship, dinner and the presentation of the four alumni awards. And annually, for the last four or five years, we have been soliciting names of alumni who could be awarded special recognition.

 

We are grateful to those who have submitted names already this year for consideration. As in the past, it will be difficult to make those final selections. So many alumni are deserving for so many reasons.

 

But it's the dinner! It's the fellowship! It's the prayer! How did the seminary get where it is today without prayer? An open invitation is extended to all alumni and alumnae to join in the prayer on February 22 as we celebrate Alumni Day for 2009. Then comes the fellowship and the dinner—always great times for classes to get together and to remember "the old days" at Sacred Heart.

 

How did we survive through Majeske, Matyn, Szymaszek, Rogers, Dakoske, Srebernac? Or how about Dowell, O'Leary, Cunningham, Hoerauf, Young, Modras? The list of former professors could go on for pages. It would not take much to get a conversation started. Circle the date: February 22, 2009. Plan to attend and get involved with your Alumni Association.

 

Now is the time for that new custom to become a reality for you and for your classmates. Those who have attended in past years have remarked on how grateful they are that Sacred Heart invites them back for this annual reunion. Now is the time to join in the events of a great evening.
