"Casts a Net" for Deserving Students

Did you know that Sacred Heart seminarians, diaconate candidates and lay ministry students often must assume the burden of personal debt as they follow God's call to service. In response, a wonderful development is occurring at Sacred Heart.

Mr. Richard Dugas, president of Pulte Homes, and Mrs. Kathleen B. McCann, senior vice president of Soave Enterprises, and a committee of nine community leaders have launched a scholarship initiative called the Fishermen's Fund, to financially assist these worthy students. The mission of the Fishermen's Fund is as follows:

"Sacred Heart Major Seminary's Fishermen's Fund, established and supported by the laity, exists to ensure that no vocation to the Roman Catholic priesthood, diaconate or lay ministry is hindered due to financial need."

The goal of the fund is two-fold.

First, it aims to inform Catholics throughout the archdiocese about the financial hurdles that students must overcome in their decision to pursue a Sacred Heart education and serve the archdiocese. Now, through the Fishermen's Fund, there are several ways that Catholics can "cast a net" of support for these deserving students.

Second, the fund advises all potential Sacred Heart students that financial aid is available, and that money should not stand in the way of a fruitful vocation.

If you would like to help support the education and vocation of future priests, deacons and lay ministers through the Fishermen's Fund, please email the Sacred Heart Foundation Office at fishermensfund@shms.edu
or call (313) 883-8779.

We're not asking you to walk on water, just that you get in the boat.
