Our Virtual Library at SHMS

Did you know we offer a variety of resources online at the Cardinal Szoka Library? Most of our patrons have used the online catalog in the Library, or through our website at home or in the office. But we offer a variety of online indexes, databases, and networked CD-ROMS in-house. These may be accessed on any of the ten public terminals within the Library.  Here is a list of our current resources. Watch for new additions over the next several months.

Databases
First Search. OH: OCLC, 2003--First Search is a comprehensive collection of databases searchable on one site. Users can search by a subject, author, title, multiple keywords, and date. A large variety of databases are available on First Search including Humanities Abstracts, ERIC (educational resources), Biography Index, World Almanac, Reader's Guide, and MEDLINE (medical resources). First Search is particularly valuable to SHMS for the ATLA Religion and WorldCat databases.

ATLA Religion—includes Religion Index One, Religion Index Two, and Book Reviews in Religion. (These are also available in print in the Main Library.)

WorldCat—the Library staff constantly use WorldCat to search for authors and book titles, to catalog our collection, and to order interlibrary loans. Now First Search offers WorldCat for all users to search. Verify a title or citation, find the complete writings of a particular author or search by subject or keyword. WorldCat is a great source for finding resources or compiling a bibliography, and offers some resources in full-text format. WorldCat also identifies if the Szoka Library owns a source found. With over 48 million records in WorldCat, you are sure to find what you need.
