January 2008
January Happenings at The Retreat Center
While January seemed to be a quieter month than some, we welcomed 22 groups of varying sizes for varying lengths of stays at the beginning of this New Year totaling a little less than 1000 guests.
- The largest group that we welcomed was a parish men’s retreat that comes every year. We anticipate their presence and prayer. A second parish retreat for men also took place this month.
- Members of seven Protestant communities took time away for prayer and retreat at St. John, many of them having been here for previous experiences.
- A course from Sacred Heart Major Seminary, “Introduction to Spirituality” began on the second Thursday and will continue until the end of April.
- Learning to Pray with the Bible, an eight-week seminar teaching St. Ignatius’ Method of Prayer, will convene each Tuesday evening, concluding on March 11, 2008.
- The Catholic Leadership Institute program for Archdiocesan priests initiated a third cohort.
- The Diaconate held their regular retreat at the Center this month.
- Catholic Central High School continues their year-long retreat program two days each week.
- A Youth Ministry event, a campus ministry gathering and two confirmation retreats brought the faces of the young into our midst.
- Three or four additional groups rounded out the month.
