May Happenings at The Retreat Center
- On May 1st The Retreat Center convened the first in a series of marriage enrichment programs called The First Years and Beyond. The talk, "Why Didn't Anyone Tell Us That?" by Mr. Tim Hogan was aimed at giving couples some tools for resolving every-day issues that arise in the marriage partnership. Evaluations suggested that the thirty plus couples who attended were renewed in their commitment, enthused about the strategies that were presented and found the research-based, real-life examples relevant. Watch for fall and spring sessions in this continuing series.
- The Covenant Love marriage preparation program took place May 2-3. Twenty-five couples from a variety of parishes in the Archdiocese took advantage of the opportunity to reflect on marriage as a sacramental covenant, to practice communication skills, and to learn about family of origin issues, healthy sexuality and financial planning. There was time for couple prayer, the celebration of Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. At the closing participants expressed gratitude for being able to discuss matters that they had not taken time to explore previously. Evaluations were extremely positive. Most would recommend the program to others. The next Covenant Love retreat will take place August 1 and 2, 2009.
- This month the Word of Life Community, which regularly utilizes The Retreat Center, sponsored an international women's retreat. We welcomed 120 guests from all over the world for this event.
- A parish confirmation, a parish staff meeting and a regional meeting sponsored by the Archdiocesan Office of Development were part of the mix in May.
- Once again we welcomed diverse Protestant communities, nine in all, for their prayer experiences.
- The month concluded with a second large retreat for women.
- During May The Retreat Center offered nourishment for body and spirit to around 1000 seekers, who chose this place for time apart.
