Dear Brothers and Sisters,

May the peace of the Lord be with you all this day and week ahead.  It has been interesting to see some of the parish bulletins of late.  Many of the parishes in the Archdiocese are planning Summer Vacation Bible Events, with many of them involving music.  I am sure that involves some of you in various ways.  More planning and more ministry.

This week’s scriptures certainly gave us a chance to reflect profoundly on just why we do what we do.  “Who do you say that I am” is a very direct question which permeates all aspects of our ministry.  We say who Jesus is in so many ways through our interactions with colleagues, parishioners, parish staff, and, most importantly, in our music.  We as music ministers are so blest to be able to share this awareness we have of Jesus in so many creative ways.  We pray to be lead by the Holy Spirit to reveal this Jesus in the many ways we minister in our churches.

Please keep in mind Anne Merenda, Linda Phillips, and Elaine Spencer who are ill and in need of our prayers.  We also pray for those who have or will be experiencing transitions in their ministerial life.  We also pray for those parishes who will experience transitions with new pastors and administrators.

The next Friday at Denny's will be at 12:15 on June 25 at the Denny's on Pine Grove Street in Port Huron. Come, share, and hear about the new Roman Missal and its impact on our ministry.

May God bless you this week in all that you do

Louis

Some of you have called and emailed about the upcoming New Roman Missal and when it will be used.  The beginning of the use of the New Roman Missal will be the first Sunday of Advent.  In the meantime the Archdiocescan Worship Commission will be putting together a plan for us to implement the changes that will happen. There are some good materials on the USCCB websight as well as the FDLC website which will give you as a minister some background and understanding.  All of us will be impacted by the changes. The more we know the better we can communicate with the people we work with.

You can find more information about the Roman Missal at the USCCB website.

NPM Convention Planning

The Core Committee and the many volunteers who are aiding them in the preparation of the Convention continue to ask for your prayers and support in the work leading up to the NPM Convention. They have been working very hard to create the best convention ever.  Below are some ways you can help:

Equipment

Equipment Manager John Laginess writes of particular needs for some Special Events. Please see if you can help with:

  • 3 sets of Handbells with table pads and table music stands
  • 2 portable sound systems with 6 channel mixer and speakers
  • Microphones with cords and boom microphone stands
  • Long ¼” patch cords
  • 2 floor flood lights for prayer room
  • A large conductor’s music stand

Anyone who has any of these items that would be willing to let us borrow them should contact me directly by email (Lajiness.john@aod.org) or phone (248-470-2058)

Convention Choir

Nancy Deacon, Director of the Music for the Liturgies of the Convention is asking for more men to balance out the Choirs for the Eucharist, Opening and Closing Events.  If you can help, please contact her at 313-883-6300, ex.227 or at Deacon.Nancy@aod.org.

Hospitality

Volunteer Coordinator Annette Wright, is still in need of Hospitality Volunteers for Sunday.  If you can help her, please contact her at organnette28@yahoo.com  or call her at 586-453-2112.

It's not too late to register!

If you are unable to help, please consider coming to the Convention as a participant. It is not too late to sign up for one day or the whole event.  This is the first time in twenty-nine years the NPM Convention has bee in Detroit.  It could not be easier to get some formation, updating and meet and greet other musicians in ministry like yourself.  You could take a car load of people for one day, two days or the whole event.  Please check out the offerings by going on the web site npm.org.  Everything is there that you would need to sign up and see what subjects would interest you, your cantors, choirs instrumentalists, pastors, deacons and worship leaders.  Truly there is something for everyone.
