Dear Colleagues,

May our good God give you peace!

No doubt the readings of this weekend sparked many thoughts about following Jesus.  This sense of “you’re it,” as expressed in the First Reading, brought back memories of the game of tag.  Like Elisha, we were tagged by God when we were baptized and our gifts exposed.  We have been playing this wonderful spiritual game of “you’re it” ever sense.  We are daughters and sons of God, we are music ministers to promote the kingdom of God, we are called to witness the love God has for us, something we can never stop doing.  We are in it for the long haul.  With the grace of the Holy Spirit, we can endure and share this gift with all we meet.

Please keep in mind Anne Merenda, Linda Phillips, and Elaine Spencer who are ill and in need of our prayers.  We also pray for those who have or will be experiencing transitions in their ministerial life.  We also pray for those parishes who will experience transitions with new pastors and administrators.

The next Fridays at Denny’s will take place in Monroe.  This will be at the Denny’s on Dixie Highway, August 27 at 12:15 pm.  See you there, especially Monroe and Downriver  musicians.

May God bless you this week in all that you do

Louis

Some of you have called and emailed about the upcoming New Roman Missal and when it will be used.  The beginning of the use of the New Roman Missal will be the first Sunday of Advent.  In the meantime, the Archdiocescan Worship Commission will be putting together a plan for us to implement the changes that will happen. There are some good materials on the USCCB Web site as well as the FDLC Web site, which will give you, as a minister, some background and understanding.  All of us will be impacted by the changes. The more we know, the better we can communicate with the people we work with.

You can find more information about the Roman Missal at the USCCB website.

Check out WLP site for tastes of the new Mass settings:  www.singthemass.com  You will have a chance to see and hear what is coming up for us.  This will prepare us also for the NPM Convention, as so much of the publishers will be sharing what we will be using in the future!

NPM Convention Planning

We are two weeks away from the opening of the NPM National Convention.  It is exciting that we are hosting this event, the first time in twenty-nine years! Thank you to all who have been praying for the success and will be giving your time to make this a very special event in our Archdiocese.  Music Directors, if you have not asked people to come to this convention, please take the time to do so.  Having this convention in area affords us the opportunity to participate in one day, two days or whatever.  There is something for everyone at this convention.  I realize money is very tight these days, but imagine if you had to go to another town attend the convention; it would cost a lot more.  I ask that you consider coming yourselves and bring a car load, that way the parking will be cheaper, you get to know one another better, and the experience of the convention is one where you leave refreshed and renewed.  Find all the information you need on www.npm.org.

It's not too late to register!

If you are unable to help, please consider coming to the Convention as a participant. It is not too late to sign up for one day or the whole event.  This is the first time in twenty-nine years the NPM Convention has bee in Detroit.  It could not be easier to get some formation, updating and meet and greet other musicians in ministry like yourself.  You could take a car load of people for one day, two days or the whole event.  Please check out the offerings by going on the web site npm.org.  Everything is there that you would need to sign up and see what subjects would interest you, your cantors, choirs instrumentalists, pastors, deacons and worship leaders.  Truly there is something for everyone.
