Dear Brothers and Sisters:

This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad!  We have much to thank God for, especially  the gift of music and the gift of one another.  In one very short week, we will gather with our brothers and sisters from around  the United States and Canada to celebrate these two gifts.  We will gather to pray, to sing, to learn, and to play.  But we will gather first in the name of Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit.  The NPM Convention is rapidly coming upon us here in Detroit.  Many people have worked many hours to prepare for its coming.  I hope to see all of you there and to celebrate together.  Let us live out the theme of this year’s convention, "Hope and Harmony," during the coming days and share this hope and harmony those with those we minister with and for throughout the year. There will be no Update next week because of the Convention.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas:

Please remember in your prayers the family of Brazeal Dennard, an internationally reknowned composer, conductor, and instructor, who passed away over the weekend. May he rest in peace in the arms of the God he loved so well.

Some of colleagues have had had recent injuries and illnesses.  We remember in prayer Anne Merenda, Sr. Shirley Hoski, Linda Phillips and Elaine Spencer.  All are getting better, but still need our prayers as they recover.  We remember as well those who are experiencing job displacement and transitions.  Many parishes this weekend past celebrated Eucharist for the first time with new pastors and associate pastors.  We pray for these parishes and ministers as well.

The next Fridays at Denny’s will take place in Monroe.  This will be at the Denny’s on Dixie Highway, August 27 at 12:15 pm.  See you there, especially Monroe and Downriver  musicians.

May God bless you this week in all that you do

Louis

Some of you have called and emailed about the upcoming New Roman Missal and when it will be used.  The beginning of the use of the New Roman Missal will be the first Sunday of Advent.  In the meantime, the Archdiocescan Worship Commission will be putting together a plan for us to implement the changes that will happen. There are some good materials on the USCCB Web site as well as the FDLC Web site, which will give you, as a minister, some background and understanding.  All of us will be impacted by the changes. The more we know, the better we can communicate with the people we work with.

You can find more information about the Roman Missal at the USCCB website.

Check out WLP site for tastes of the new Mass settings:  www.singthemass.com  You will have a chance to see and hear what is coming up for us.  This will prepare us also for the NPM Convention, as so much of the publishers will be sharing what we will be using in the future!

As you can see by this Update, much of the preparation for the NPM Convention has taken place.  The Core Committee, their Chairpersons, and all the volunteers whom they represent have been working toward this convention for many months.  Soon we will reap the benefit of their work.  I again want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who are helping or have helped in any way to bring this convention together.  The national office knows full well that the convention could not happen with out the generous help of people like you.  We have represented the Archdiocese of Detroit, the local NPM Chapter, and ourselves very well.  Let us continue to pray for the convention’s success, pray for those involved and those coming, that they receive all they strive for.  Also it is not too late to register as a participant by going to NPM.org.  All the information you could use us right on that Web site.
